Andrew Shao

Andrew is the Co-founder and Managing Partner of Bluestein Ventures. Andrew founded Bluestein in 2014 and is recognized as a thought leader in the food space. He is responsible for driving the firm’s strategy, leading its investment committee, and working deeply & closely with its portfolio companies – including currently sitting on the boards of BiomeSense and Bizzy Coffee. Andrew has made over 70 investments since founding Bluestein, with a particular expertise in the overlap between food and health.

Andrew brings to Bluestein a deep and diverse background working with emerging leaders to grow their businesses. Andrew spent over seven years as a strategy consultant at Monitor Deloitte, working on corporate, competitive, marketing, and organizational strategies with a diverse set of retail, CPG, hospitality, and business service clients. Andrew has an MBA with distinction from the Kellogg School of Management and a B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations with Honors from Cornell University.

Dr. Andrew Shao serves as Senior Vice President of Global Regulatory and Scientific Affairs at Niagen Bioscience, where he leads the company's scientific initiatives and regulatory strategy worldwide.

With 25+ years of experience in the global nutrition industry, Dr. Shao brings extensive expertise in nutritional science and regulatory affairs. Prior to joining Niagen Bioscience, he held scientific and regulatory leadership roles at multinational companies and trade associations including Amway, Herbalife Nutrition, and the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN).

Throughout his career, Dr. Shao has advised governments globally on science-based regulatory and policy reform, addressing topics from health claims and risk analysis to botanical regulations. His international regulatory expertise supports Niagen Bioscience's global expansion efforts.

Dr. Shao holds a doctorate in nutritional biochemistry and a master's in human nutrition science, both from Tufts University. He maintains active memberships in the American Society for Nutrition, and the Tufts Nutrition Council.

Dr. Andrea D. Willis is Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee.

She oversees Total Health Management and Pharmacy Management and is responsible for maintaining clinical quality excellence.

Prior to joining BlueCross, Willis was director of CoverKids and was responsible for developing Tennessee’s federally approved State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). Prior to that, she served as deputy commissioner for the Tennessee Department of Health.

Willis earned a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a Doctor of Medicine from Georgetown University School of Medicine. She received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Willis is a fellow with the American Academy of Pediatrics. She has been recognized by Modern Healthcare Magazine as one of its Women’s Leaders of 2024. Additionally, the magazine has previously named her as a Top 25 Minority Executive in Healthcare; and one of the 50 Most Influential Clinical Executives. Johns Hopkins Alumni Association honored her as one of their Distinguished Alumna. She testified in front of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions regarding telehealth utilization during the COVID-19 pandemic. She received the inaugural Champion of Healthcare Award in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion awarded by the Chattanooga Times Free Press. She has served as a member of the Health Advisory Board for the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
