CEO & Co-founder
Mike Pykosz is the chief executive officer and co-founder of Oak Street Health. Founded in 2012, Oak Street Health is an innovative and fast-growing network of primary care centers providing person-centered healthcare for adults on Medicare. Acknowledging the growing disparity between health outcomes and the unsustainable spend of treating chronically ill older adults, Mike, along with his team of “Oakies” developed the company’s mission and objective to rebuild healthcare as it should be.
Oak Street Health’s model tackles the critical gaps of the traditional healthcare approach. In addition to spending significantly more time with patients compared to national average, they also receive a more encompassing experience – including – transportation to and from appointments, support in navigating insurance complexities, home visits for complex needs and access to mental health experts as well as in-center pharmacies. To tackle the older adult challenges of aging in place and social isolation, each center hosts hundreds of educational, fitness and social events annually.
This unwavering focus on the quality of each patient visit has reduced hospital admissions by 44 percent and reduced emergency room visits for its patients by 46 percent.
The company’s impressive growth is proving the demand for patient-centered holistic healthcare. Oak Street Health provides healthcare to more than 50,000 patients in more than 40 centers throughout Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Prior to Oak Street, Mike worked for Boston Consulting Group where he led projects focused on caring for the Medicare population and their unique healthcare needs. Mike holds a JD from Harvard Law School and a BS in biochemistry from the University of Notre Dame. He lives in Chicago with his wife and two daughters.
