President and CEO, Optum Analytics and CEO, Advisory Board Research
Robert Musslewhite serves as president and CEO of Optum Analytics and of Advisory Board Research. In these roles, Robert leads Optum’s efforts to make the health system work better for everyone by lowering costs and improving quality through the industry’s leading data, analytics, and best practice research. Robert joined Optum in November 2017, following the acquisition of the Advisory Board Company where Robert served as CEO since 2008 and Chairman since 2013.
Under Robert’s leadership as CEO, The Advisory Board Company more than quadrupled in size, expanding off its best practice research foundation into data, analytics, and technology and growing to serve nearly every hospital and health system in the United States, as well as many life sciences companies, health plans, and international provider organizations. As a result, the Advisory Board became the partner of choice for health systems to attract, retain, and engage patients by offering the care they need; deliver the highest standard of care by instituting and consistently following the best protocols; and receive payment for the services they render, so they have the financial stability to serve their communities for the long term.
Prior to joining The Advisory Board Company, Robert was an Associate Principal with McKinsey & Company in the Washington, D.C., Amsterdam, and Dallas offices. He serves on the Board of Directors of Ascend Learning and is Chair of the Board of Governors of St. Albans School. Robert holds a JD from Harvard Law School and an AB in economics from Princeton University.
