Interoperability spotlight @ HLTH

Sponsored by:

Interoperability is having its moment and the Interoperability Spotlight is where it takes centre stage. Sponsored by Rhapsody, this is a focused deep-dive into the data infrastructure powering the next wave of healthcare AI.

Because AI is only as powerful as the data that feeds it. Join us on the AI Stage to explore the standards, systems, and real-world solutions that are finally making connected healthcare a reality.

From FHIR adoption to cross-system integration, the conversations happening here aren’t theoretical – they’re the building blocks of a healthcare system that actually works together.

Sessions:

Too FHIR to fail? Europe’s interoperability moment of truth
Tuesday 16 June, 9:50 AM – 10:30 AM

FHIR has sparked a movement in health data standardisation. The question is no longer whether it works but whether it will scale. Payers are pushing forward. Providers are weighing operational reality. Vendors are balancing demand with delivery. The benefits are compelling: seamless exchange, faster innovation, smarter care. But delivery depends on coordinated execution. Will FHIR become the infrastructure Europe builds on or remain a standard still waiting for full adoption?

Ĉu vi parolas Esperanton?: Building a common language for interoperable patient care
Wednesday 17 June, 9:50 AM – 10:30 AM

In 1887, Polish eye doctor L. L. Zamenhof created a new language: Esperanto. It was designed to be neutral and easy to learn, perfect for fostering peace and international collaboration. In the early 20th century, it was used for just that. Activists from Japan, China, India, and Vietnam came together and spoke Esperanto to exchange ideas and fight for international independence. It worked because each person only needed to learn one language, instead of four (or more!) Esperanto may not have taken off, but the principle of a lingua franca has never been more important in healthtech. As hospitals take on more and more software, the risk of silos grows. Standards, RFP requirements and shared data expectations are good guardrails, but ask anyone working in hospital IT, and you’ll quickly find that adherence is not what it needs to be. With so many of the biggest players not incentivised commercially to share, how can we create a world where every system is talking the same language?
