From Habits to Health Legacy: How AI Is Shaping the Future of Care

Author:

When I think about health legacies, I don’t just think about genetics or family history. I think about the choices we make every day—the small, often invisible actions that add up to a healthier, longer, and more fulfilling life.

For me, those choices haven’t always been easy. I’ve spent much of my adult life in the same cycle so many others know too well: losing weight, gaining it back, and fighting to keep up with the demands of health, work, and family.

Last year, I shared my story about navigating the challenges of GLP-1 medications—the hope, the frustrations, and the ongoing fight for access. That journey is still very much a part of my life. But this year at HLTH, I want to talk about something bigger than any one medication: the power of habits, the promise of AI, and how each of us can redefine our health legacy.

When I first stepped into my role at Noom, I carried not just the responsibility of representing a leading health company, but also the weight of my own health journey. I’ve been through it all—diets, exercise programs, surgeries, setbacks, and, most recently, GLP-1 medications.

This experience reshaped the way I think about legacy. Because legacy isn’t built on moments of perfection. It’s built on resilience, and on the habits that carry us forward when the quick fixes let us down.

At Noom, we’ve always believed that sustainable health change comes from the psychology of behavior. Medications can be powerful, even life-changing, but they work best when they are combined with strong, consistent habits.

For me, that looks like small, daily choices: drinking more water, prioritizing protein, pausing before reaching for a snack, walking 1:1s and making time to move my body. These choices aren’t flashy. They don’t make headlines. But they are the foundation of health longevity.

I’ve learned that habits keep me grounded. I once thought the GLP-1 was the “magic answer,” and now I know it’s truly magic, when combined with life-changing habits, like eating better, weight training, and walking every day. They are the safety net that prevents me from free-falling back into old patterns. Forming and keeping habits isn’t easy. That’s where AI has become a game-changer.

Noom’s AI tools—like photo food logging, Welli (our AI health companion), and protein tracking—give me the support I need in real time. Our AI body scan provides a holistic picture of my health, making progress visible in ways that keep me motivated, and focused on a healthier future. Longevity isn’t just about adding years to our lives—it’s about adding life to our years. It’s about creating a future where we can thrive, not just survive.

These tools aren’t meant to replace the work; they’re meant to guide, nudge, and remind me of the small decisions that build up to something bigger. And that’s what redefining your health legacy is really about—finding ways to reclaim control and chart your own path, even when the system feels broken.

Every habit, every AI-powered nudge, every mindful choice adds to that story is my legacy. It’s not measured in pounds lost, but in the energy I have for my family, the resilience I’ve built after setbacks, and the ability to keep moving forward—even when it’s hard.

I know my story isn’t unique. Millions of people are navigating the same challenges—struggling with weight, battling for access to medications, and trying to build healthier habits in a world that doesn’t make it easy.

So here we are again – at HLTH – taking the stage among our fellow health and wellness partners for a call to action. We need to continue to fight for a system where access to care is fair, affordable, and consistent. But we also need to empower individuals with the tools—behavioral, psychological, and technological—that will sustain them no matter what challenges they face.

At Noom, we’re committed to both. We continue to lobby policymakers to fight for fair pricing and broader access to medications, and we’re doubling down on AI and habit-based innovations that put the power of change directly into people’s hands.

As an industry, we have the tools to help people live healthier, longer lives—through behavior change, AI innovation, and greater access to life-changing medications. But the real question is: how will each of us redefine our health legacy?

For me, it’s about showing up—on the basketball court with my son, at work with confidence, and in my own daily choices. For you, it may look different. But one thing is true for all of us: every small decision we make becomes part of the story we’re writing. My kids will see the healthy choices my wife and I are making, and they’ll begin to make similar decisions. Ultimately, we’re setting up these healthy lifestyles not just for ourselves, but for future generations.

So here’s my invitation: start with one habit. Let AI be your ally. And remember that your health legacy isn’t just about you—it’s about the people who look up to you, depend on you, and will be inspired by the story you choose to write.

Together, let’s not just talk about healthcare’s next chapter—let’s live it.
