Amazon and One Medical Introduce In-Clinic Pharmacy Kiosks to Streamline Prescription Access

Amazon has announced the launch of “Amazon Pharmacy Kiosks,” a new service enabling patients to fill prescriptions immediately following medical appointments at select One Medical offices. The initiative seeks to reduce the time between diagnosis and treatment by integrating pharmacy services directly into primary care settings.

The kiosks will debut in December across several Los Angeles–area One Medical locations, including Downtown LA, Beverly Hills, West LA, West Hollywood, and Long Beach. According to Amazon, the program is intended to expand to additional sites in the future.

Hannah McClellan, vice president of operations at Amazon Pharmacy, stated that the goal is to “remove a critical barrier and help patients start their treatment when it matters most — right away.” The announcement comes as Amazon continues to expand its healthcare footprint, building on its acquisition of One Medical and the launch of Amazon Pharmacy in 2020.

The company noted that nearly one in four U.S. neighborhoods qualify as “pharmacy deserts,” and that even in areas with nearby pharmacies, only about half of customers report their prescriptions being filled promptly. By positioning pharmacy kiosks within clinics, Amazon aims to address these accessibility challenges while streamlining the medication process for patients.

To use the service, patients create an Amazon Pharmacy account, schedule an appointment at a participating One Medical clinic, and have their provider send the prescription directly to Amazon Pharmacy. They can then select kiosk pickup, complete payment through the Amazon app, and retrieve the medication by scanning a QR code. An Amazon pharmacist reviews all orders before dispensing, and medications are typically available within minutes.

Each kiosk is supplied through Amazon’s logistics network and stocked with medications suited to the needs of each clinic’s patient population. Through the Amazon app, patients can view pricing, verify insurance coverage, and access pharmacist consultations via video or phone.

McClellan added, “We’ve designed the kiosk experience to be simple, fast and patient-centered, while ensuring patients still have access to pharmacist guidance, just as they would at a traditional counter.”

The rollout of pharmacy kiosks follows Amazon’s recent changes to its Prime membership benefits and underscores the company’s continued push into healthcare delivery and consumer convenience.
