Marvin Health to Deliver AI Mental Health Coaches for Clinicians

Marvin Health has launched a new suite of role-specific AI coaches built on OpenAI to support physicians, nurses, and medical residents with burnout, stress, and vicarious trauma. Unlike general-purpose chatbots, the tools are designed specifically for healthcare professionals and provide personalized, 24/7 support. The platform is already integrated with major health systems including Stanford and Cedars-Sinai, and can escalate high-risk situations to Marvin’s network of human therapists, with the goal of increasing early mental health intervention by two to three times.

At the core of the platform is what Marvin calls “clinical scaffolding,” a proprietary framework developed with leadership input from institutions such as Stanford, Mass General, and Cedars-Sinai. This structure constrains OpenAI’s models to role-appropriate guidance, reducing hallucinations and enforcing clear clinical and professional boundaries. The AI adapts its language, tone, and escalation thresholds depending on whether the user is a resident, nurse, or attending physician, recognizing that each role experiences distinct pressures and forms of trauma.

The AI coaches operate under continuous clinical oversight and are not intended to function independently. Licensed clinicians monitor the system around the clock, with defined pathways for transitioning users to live care when safety or risk thresholds are met. Rather than relying on informal or anecdotal data, the platform is grounded in anonymized clinical insights and evidence-based treatment pathways. Marvin Health leadership emphasized that the goal is not to replace therapists, but to lower barriers to support and help healthcare workers access care earlier and more consistently.
