Aegis Ventures' digital health consortium is growing as health systems collaborate to scale innovative healthcare solutions. UPMC Enterprises and Vanderbilt Health recently joined the initiative, alongside nine founding members, including Northwell Health, Stanford Health Care, and The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
The consortium, launched in April, aims to place health systems at the forefront of digital innovation to address critical challenges in quality, equity, and cost. Partner organizations co-develop, invest in, and deploy technologies to transform healthcare.
"We launched the consortium to ensure health systems lead innovation," said John Noseworthy, M.D., chairman of the consortium. "Aligning incentives creates sustainable technologies that benefit patients, providers, and administrators."
The collaboration builds on Aegis' partnership with Northwell Ventures, which developed ventures like Caire, an engagement platform, and Optain, an AI-powered diagnostics company. With its expanded membership, the consortium plans to accelerate the creation of companies tackling issues like patient engagement, workflow automation, and administrative efficiency.
John Beadle, co-founder of Aegis Ventures, emphasized that health systems face overlapping challenges, such as diversifying revenue streams and improving margins. Aegis offers tailored solutions, from spinning out business units to monetizing IP and data, to meet these needs.
By uniting health systems to co-develop and share risk, the consortium fosters a collaborative framework to deploy novel technologies efficiently. Leaders see opportunities in AI, generative technologies, and automation to reshape patient experiences and streamline care delivery.
