West China Hospital of Sichuan University has validated what is described as China’s first locally developed orthopaedic surgical robotic arm, marking a milestone for domestic medical robotics. In a statement, Yuanhua Tech announced that its HX Orthopaedic-Specific Robotic Arm, developed by its subsidiary Yuanhua Orthopaedic Robotics (Shenzhen), successfully completed clinical verification at the Chengdu-based teaching hospital.
The robotic system features high-precision zero-gravity compensation, compliant control, and tactile feedback. According to the company, clinical testing demonstrated stable performance with no detectable lag, latency, deviation, or error. Yuanhua says the system improves surgical accuracy and efficiency while maintaining adaptability across clinical settings and ensuring medical data security.
Yuanhua positions the HX system as a domestic alternative to the international manufacturers that currently dominate China’s high-end surgical robotics market. Driven by population aging and national policies promoting precision medicine and more equitable healthcare distribution, demand for advanced surgical technology is growing. Company leadership argues the system could lower adoption barriers for robotic surgery, particularly in lower-tier hospitals and resource-constrained regions, helping address surgeon shortages and improve access to specialized care.
Founded in 2018, Yuanhua Tech has focused on developing fully domestic smart medical devices across specialties including orthopaedics, gastroenterology, obstetrics and gynaecology, and hemodialysis. The company holds multiple approvals from China’s National Medical Products Administration, including certification for its orthopaedic robotic arm, and has secured regulatory clearances in several international markets.
Across Asia more broadly, robotic-assisted orthopaedic surgery continues to expand, with hospitals adopting systems from global players such as Stryker, Medtronic, and Intuitive, while regional institutions develop their own AI-enhanced surgical technologies.
