Innovaccer Acquires Virtual Specialty Care Platform Story Health

San Francisco-based health data analytics company Innovaccer has acquired Story Health, a virtual cardiovascular care platform, in its latest move to expand capabilities in specialty care delivery. The acquisition represents Innovaccer's fourth strategic purchase in the past two years, following its January acquisition of actuarial software company Humbi AI and previous acquisitions of Cured and Pharmacy Quality Solutions in the prior year.

Story Health, founded in 2020 and also based in California, brings a comprehensive virtual care platform that combines telehealth, health coaches, artificial intelligence, and connected devices to deliver continuous specialty care for heart-related and other chronic conditions. The platform enables physicians to access patient data and receive personalized recommendations based on historical prescribing patterns, creating a more data-driven approach to cardiovascular care management.

The integration of Story Health's technology will enable Innovaccer to offer what it terms "agentic care," where AI agents assist specialty care teams with non-clinical tasks and help maintain patient engagement between visits. This approach aims to extend the reach of specialty care providers while reducing administrative burden and improving care continuity.

"When we built Story Health, we believed specialty care needed more than software, it needed an operating model. Most platforms stop at insights. Story Health goes all the way to action. Joining forces allows us to scale nationally and turn continuous, AI-assisted specialty care into the new normal," Tom Stanis, cofounder and CEO of Story Health, said in a statement.

Founded in 2014, Innovaccer serves life sciences companies, government organizations, providers, and payers with tools designed to improve value-based care, reduce administrative burden, and enhance patient engagement through health analytics and data. The company secured $275 million in Series F funding this January, comprising both primary and secondary investments, building on previous funding rounds of $150 million in 2021.

Story Health has established partnerships with numerous healthcare providers including Kettering Health, Intermountain Health, Saint Luke's Mid America Heart Institute, ChristianaCare, and West Virginia University's Heart and Vascular Institute. The company raised $22.6 million in Series A funding in 2022, positioning itself as an emerging player in virtual specialty care before this acquisition.
