Lila Sciences Garners $235 Million For Superintelligence Platform

Lila Sciences, a company developing an AI-enabled scientific superintelligence computer, announced it has secured $235 million in Series A funding. The round was co-led by Braidwell and Collective Global, with participation from General Catalyst, Alumni Ventures, March Capital, Flagship Pioneering, Altitude Life Science Ventures, Common Metal, Modi Ventures, ARK Venture Fund, the Mathers Foundation, NGS Super, the State of Michigan Retirement System and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.


The company is building a superintelligence platform paired with autonomous labs capable of running the entire scientific method. Its technology goes beyond traditional AI applications like protein modeling by generating hypotheses, designing experiments and learning from the outcomes. According to the company, its agents are able to design and validate novel protein therapeutics, nucleic acids, chemistries and diagnostic modalities, with workflows that once took human teams days or weeks now completed in minutes or hours. These advances could unlock new approaches to cancer, obesity, immune diseases and more.


Beyond medicine, Lila Sciences is also applying its technology to materials, manufacturing, energy and computing. The new funding will support workforce expansion and the establishment of new hubs in San Francisco, Boston and London to house and scale teams and AI Science Factories—facilities where AI systems can conduct experiments at scale.


Earlier this year, the Massachusetts-based company raised $200 million in seed funding. Molly Gibson, president of future science at Lila Sciences, has emphasized the transformative potential of superintelligence in healthcare, saying she believes AI will dramatically improve the human condition. She noted that while the exact definition of curing disease is often debated, expanding scientific knowledge through systems like these will undoubtedly lead to better health and improved quality of life.
