Nuffield Health, the UK's largest healthcare charity, is expanding its partnership with Careology to introduce advanced digital cancer care technology across 12 Nuffield Health hospitals. The decision follows a successful pilot at Nuffield Health Derby Hospital, where over half of the patients utilising the Careology digital cancer care platform logged symptoms and engaged with clinical nurses through a dedicated app.
During the pilot, users made 980 symptom updates, created 365 journal entries, and marked 6,755 medication doses as taken. Digitisation of questionnaires, including "Holistic Needs Assessments," improved completion rates and facilitated personalised care plans. Feedback from nurses and patients led to incremental design improvements, such as push notifications, boosting patient engagement by 12%.
Elisa Mills, Nuffield Health’s cancer services national lead, emphasised the importance of supporting patients through the latest digital technology, enhancing their understanding and engagement with care. The extended partnership aligns with Nuffield Health's broader digital transformation plans to ensure optimal patient experiences.
Careology's cancer care software, endorsed by Macmillan Cancer Support, received the 'Excellence in Supporting Patients and Healthcare Teams' award at the Forward Healthcare Awards. Nuffield Health's collaboration with Careology reflects the broader trend in healthcare, leveraging digital solutions for improved patient care and engagement.
