Finnish health-tracking ring maker Oura is establishing a manufacturing facility in Fort Worth, Texas, scheduled to open in 2026, as part of its expanding relationship with the U.S. Department of Defense. The facility represents a significant step in localizing production for the company's largest enterprise customer while strengthening its global manufacturing capabilities.
The partnership between Oura and the DoD, which began in 2019, focuses on enhancing human performance across all military branches. The company's water-resistant rings measure various health metrics including resting heart health, activity and movement, sleep patterns, stress levels, women's health indicators, and metabolic health. Within defense operations, the Oura Ring technology supports stress management, resilience training, fitness optimization, fatigue risk management, and early illness detection.
The Texas facility will be specifically designed to fulfill defense contracts, incorporating enhanced security measures, innovative production practices, and advanced automation systems. This strategic expansion aligns with the company's broader efforts to meet the specialized requirements of military applications while maintaining the precision and reliability demanded by defense operations.
"As we deepen our long-standing relationship with the U.S. Department of Defense, we're proud to expand manufacturing to the United States," Tom Hale, chief executive officer of Oura, said in a statement. "Our technology prioritizes security and has been proven in the most extreme environments – delivering a clear edge in accuracy, battery life, and wearability. We are committed to equipping service members and leadership with precise biometric data and robust solutions to support readiness, resilience, and effectiveness."
The Texas facility announcement comes during a period of significant growth and strategic partnerships for Oura. In June, the company partnered with Maven Clinic, enabling Oura Ring wearers to sync their biometric data with the virtual women's health provider's digital reproductive health platform. Additionally, Oura expanded its collaboration with Dexcom in May, providing users with integrated metabolic health features including meal insights and glucose data monitoring.
These developments follow Oura's appointment of Dr. Ricky Bloomfield as its first chief medical officer in March and the completion of a $200 million Series D funding round in December, which valued the company at $5.2 billion. Dexcom made a $75 million strategic investment in Oura last year as part of their partnership agreement.
