Tia, a health clinic network specializing in comprehensive women's care, has announced a strategic partnership with Nabla to integrate ambient AI assistance for its clinical staff across all locations and service lines.
The collaboration addresses critical challenges highlighted in Tia's "Women's Integrated Primary Care 2024 Outcomes Report," which revealed that nearly half of women ages 18-35 have experienced negative interactions with healthcare providers. These negative experiences contribute to increasing mental health issues, decreased life expectancy, and inadequate midlife support—problems disproportionately affecting women of color and LGBTQIA+ individuals who frequently encounter medical bias and limited access to care.
Tia's innovative Primary Care 'Plus' model integrates primary care, reproductive health, mental health, and wellness services under one roof. Central to this approach is "relational care," emphasizing meaningful connections and shared decision-making between patients and healthcare providers. However, the burden of extensive documentation requirements often undermines these critical patient-provider interactions.
To validate Nabla's effectiveness, Tia conducted a two-month pilot program involving 30 providers across seven specialties, including gynecology, acupuncture, psychiatry, preventative medicine, and primary care and family medicine. The results were impressive, with providers reporting a 50% reduction in time needed to submit clinical notes after appointments.
Following this successful pilot, Tia has implemented Nabla's AI assistant across its entire network of clinics and markets, incorporating the technology into both telehealth and in-person appointments. Currently, more than 90 Tia providers actively use the system, having generated over 50,000 clinical notes since implementation.
"Improving provider-patient interactions is at the heart of Tia's mission," said Felicity Yost, Tia co-founder and CEO. "We want our providers to feel inspired by their work and deeply connected to their patients and not buried in administrative tasks. Nabla has given them back that time, allowing us to stay true to our values of gender equity and patient-centered care."
The partnership marks another significant step in Nabla's growing presence in healthcare organizations. Tia joins other mission-driven health systems using Nabla's technology, including Catalight, Denver Health, Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, and University of Iowa Health Care. The company reports that its AI assistant is now deployed across more than 100 provider groups nationwide.
By automating documentation processes, the technology aims to address clinical burnout—a significant challenge in healthcare—while simultaneously improving the quality of patient-centered care. This alignment with Tia's focus on relational care potentially represents a model for how AI can support rather than detract from the human elements of healthcare delivery.
