About this Session:

Perhaps the most disheartening news one can receive is realizing that an acute diagnosis could have been avoided if caught earlier. In this case, does the responsibility to get screened earlier lie with the patient or provider or maybe the payor? The argument revolves around striking the right balance in screening frequency, age and cost, while avoiding false positives, unnecessary spending, and unproven technology associated with preventive scans. The American College of Preventive Medicine advocates for whole-body scans based on specific symptoms. But can we really call it “preventative” medicine if we are just chasing symptoms? Finding the middle ground between integrating novel early detection technologies and navigating our reimbursement structures can ensure patients receive the right care at the right time without needless interventions. Sick care, no more!
