Innovation and Medicaid are often not in the same sentence. Backwards incentives built into our Medicaid program are hindering startups from choosing to build in this space as a for-profit organization. How can we create a system that aligns incentives with the promotion of high-quality, equitable care, while also proving a business case to enter this playing field as a new entrant? Fostering a culture of innovation within the Medicaid system can lead to the development and implementation of transformative approaches that cater to the unique needs of its diverse population. By challenging the perverse incentives and nurturing a proactive and equitable approach, Medicaid can become a driving force for transformative change, ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their socioeconomic status, have access to high-quality, innovative healthcare solutions.
