The Cost of Prevention

About this Session:

Looking at current reimbursement rates for preventative health services, it begs the question, does our health system actually want us to be healthy? We are breaking new ground when it comes to catching disease at earlier stages through advanced diagnostics, but we do very poorly in providing these game changing services to the majority of our population. Moving to a more preventative health focused system will take significant changes from all players and many are already making moves. From building whole health models to expanding the age requirements for routine screenings to covering more experimental treatments, we are taking steps in the right direction. By continuing to prove that evidence-based preventative health services can save lives, prevent more complicated health conditions and even save downstream costs for patients and providers, we can make the business case for prevention.
