About this Session:
Heart disease stands as the leading cause of death worldwide. By examining the factors that have contributed to heart disease’s stronghold on number one, we can uncover the roots of this pervasive problem and curb its upward trajectory. There are significant and yet often-overlooked gender differences in heart disease with symptoms manifesting differently in men and women. And there are substantial racial and ethnic disparities in heart disease stemming from structural racism and social determinants of health. Getting a handle on this deadly disease, claiming over 650,000 lives annually, will be one of our industry’s greatest challenges. Advances in diagnosis, treatment and most importantly, prevention, fill our hearts with hope.
