The Whole AI Iceberg

About this Session:

We’re at the mere tip of the iceberg when it comes to Generative AI’s impact on healthcare. Beyond administrative use cases, GenAI is seeping into care delivery with ambitious goals to integrate into diagnosis, clinical decision-making, and patient-facing services. As the technology advances, there's growing interest in putting GenAI directly into patients' hands, with data suggesting nearly two-thirds of consumers would trust an AI diagnosis. However, this rapid advancement needs to be tempered by questions around equitable access to AI-driven healthcare innovations, particularly in areas like precision medicine and medical forecasting, which could exacerbate existing healthcare disparities if not properly managed. Policymakers and health leaders face the challenge of developing frameworks that ensure the benefits of GenAI are widely accessible while also addressing concerns about algorithmic bias and the potential to reinforce existing inequities and misinformation in healthcare. As we prepare for the inevitable AI-driven future, the focus should be on balancing innovation with safety, equity, accuracy and ethical considerations to truly revolutionize healthcare for all.
