About this Session:

Endoscopy and direct visualization of the gastrointestinal tract is a critical component of diagnostic and disease management in the field of gastroenterology (GI). The expansion of the technical capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) and speed of computer processing now provide the opportunity to standardize and systematically interpret endoscopic videos in a novel and unprecedented way. We have already seen how AI-assisted polyp detection software can positively impact colon cancer screening, but beyond this use case, systematic application of computer vision on endoscopy may also assist GI's with routine implementation of standard disease severity scoring for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and routine identification of patients who may quality for clinical trials based on endoscopic features . Dr. Baxi will explore the current challenges facing GI and endoscopy, as well as how AI and computer vision are helping to combat these pain points by improving access to quality GI care and democratizing access to novel IBD therapeutics.
