Northwell, Aegis Ventures Launch Virtual Menopause Care Company

Northwell Holdings and startup studio Aegis Ventures have announced the launch of Upliv, a virtual menopause care company. Upliv will offer telehealth consultations with doctors and nurse practitioners, access to health coaches, prescriptions and patient communities.

Northwell Holdings is the investment arm of New York-based health system Northwell Health.

Expected to receive $8.4 million in seed capital through the end of 2023, Upliv is the first company formed through this partnership focused on equity in women's healthcare. Aegis Ventures had earlier announced plans to invest at least $100 million in seed funding toward these joint ventures with Northwell.

In October 2021, Northwell and Aegis had also announced plans to work together with a ‘focus on using AI to address quality, equity and cost problems in healthcare’. They had started the research on maternal health outcomes and chronic disease prediction.

According to a recent report by Silicon Valley Bank, women's health startups have raised $877 million so far in 2022. Investments are 30% higher than the full-year investment in 2020. Fertility and pregnancy care made up 68% of the investments.

Upliv is expected to pilot its services early next year through a program with select nurses at Northwell Health, followed by an enterprise-wide rollout.
