AI mental health startup The Path has raised $14.3 million in seed funding to expand its therapy-focused platform, which combines AI with evidence-based behavioral health frameworks. The funding round was led by Prime Movers Lab and included participation from several investors and public figures, including Olympic athlete Apolo Anton Ohno and boxer Deontay Wilder. The company was cofounded by motivational speaker Tony Robbins alongside former Calm executives Anson Whitmer and Tyler Sheaffer, bringing together expertise in mental wellness, AI and consumer health technology.
Previously known as Mental, The Path offers a subscription-based AI mental health app designed around what it calls an “anti-validation” approach. Rather than simply agreeing with users, the platform aims to challenge thought patterns and encourage constructive behavioral change using techniques drawn from cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and other established clinical practices. The company positions the platform as a more proactive and personalized alternative to traditional chatbot-style mental health tools.
The funding comes amid growing consumer use of AI for health-related information and support, particularly among younger users seeking mental health guidance. Recent survey data suggests AI chatbots are increasingly becoming part of how people access health information, creating opportunities for companies building digital mental wellness tools. The Path’s approach reflects a broader trend toward AI-driven mental health support that emphasizes accessibility, personalization and continuous engagement outside traditional clinical settings.
