Amazon has expanded access to its Health AI assistant, originally launched for One Medical members, to a broader U.S. audience through Amazon.com and the Amazon mobile app. The agentic AI tool is designed to help users interpret medical records, answer health questions, manage prescriptions, schedule appointments, and connect directly with licensed healthcare professionals through Amazon One Medical.
Health AI accesses patient data through state health information exchanges, allowing the system to review diagnoses, medications, and medical history before responding to questions. The platform is built to provide personalized guidance and coordinate follow-up care. When needed, it can connect users to One Medical clinicians for virtual visits or other services, creating a hybrid model that blends AI-enabled navigation with provider-led care. Amazon leaders describe the system as delivering “personalized medicine at consumer scale.”
The company reports strong early adoption among One Medical members, with many health questions resolved through AI interactions alone. If the assistant recommends clinical care, patients can choose whether to share a summary of their AI conversation with a provider. The system also includes extensive safety guardrails, including HIPAA-compliant data handling, encryption, and strict access controls. According to Amazon, the AI is trained on abstracted patterns rather than identifiable patient information and is evaluated against clinician-level standards for safety-critical decisions.
To encourage adoption, Amazon Prime members who use Health AI will receive five free virtual consultations with One Medical providers for common conditions such as colds, allergies, UTIs, and skin concerns. After the introductory period, telehealth visits are available on a pay-per-visit basis. The company plans to expand the platform’s capabilities over time, including AI-assisted guidance for nutrition, exercise, and ongoing health management.
Industry analysts say the launch reflects a growing competition among major technology companies to lead the consumer health AI market, following similar initiatives from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Microsoft. By integrating AI assistants with clinical care and retail infrastructure, Amazon aims to reshape how patients access primary care and navigate everyday health decisions.
