Avandra Health Acquires DatCard, Sorna To Build Leading Imaging Data Platform

Avandra Health, the world’s largest federated network for medical imaging and clinical data, has acquired DatCard Systems and Sorna Corporation in a move that positions Avandra as the leading end-to-end medical imaging platform. By combining DatCard and Sorna’s data-sharing capabilities with Avandra’s existing infrastructure for de-identified patient data aggregation, the company aims to power clinical care, AI development, and large-scale research with more accessible, connected imaging data.

DatCard is the market leader in DICOM distribution, best known for its PacsCube™ technology, which enables seamless sharing of imaging studies and supports continuity of care across more than 4,800 global installations. Sorna, a long-standing pioneer in automated medical data distribution, offers its Vertex Platform—providing cloud-enabled data sharing, automated DICOM CD creation, and intelligent routing trusted by major U.S. health systems for more than 25 years. Together, these companies already serve most U.S. academic medical centers, including over half of National Cancer Institute sites.

The acquisition addresses one of healthcare’s biggest barriers: the vast amount of imaging data locked inside PACS systems, making research requests costly and difficult to fulfill. By unifying clinical data distribution with research-grade data aggregation, Avandra intends to unlock this data for improved patient care and accelerated innovation. Avandra says DatCard and Sorna will continue operating independently under the Avandra umbrella, ensuring uninterrupted service for existing customers. CEO Ryan Tarzy emphasized that the combined capabilities will create the first comprehensive imaging platform serving both real-time clinical needs and the long-term demands of medical research.
