Butterfly Network, a digital health company specialising in portable ultrasound technology, has entered a commercial agreement with Mendaera, a Silicon Valley-based firm focused on medical robotics. This partnership marks the first "Powered by Butterfly'' commercialisation collaboration and aims to introduce a novel robotic system utilising Butterfly's Ultrasound-on-Chip technology to the interventional market.
The agreement includes a revenue-sharing model for every unit sold, and Mendaera's robotic technology, compatible with Butterfly's ultrasound device, aims to enhance precision and consistency in image-guided, needle-based interventions. Both companies anticipate submitting the product for FDA approval by 2025, aiming to address workforce shortages and burnout in healthcare by expanding access to high-quality interventional treatment.
Mendaera, formed by a team previously associated with Auris, which exited to Johnson & Johnson, secured $24 million in Series A funding in August 2023. The collaboration leverages Butterfly's Ultrasound-on-Chip platform and Mendaera's expertise in medical robotics to create a comprehensive solution. The joint initiative aims to streamline patient care within the healthcare system by offering an innovative robotic system with broad applications in interventional procedures.
