A recent survey from the Peterson Health Technology Institute (PHTI) indicates that employers, health systems, and health plans plan to increase their investment in digital health solutions. The 2024 State of Digital Health Purchasing survey reveals key trends in spending and contracting, reflecting a growing commitment to digital health.
The survey, conducted in collaboration with NORC at the University of Chicago, shows that 97% of employers, 86% of health systems, and 84% of health plans intend to maintain or increase their digital health spending. Motivating factors include consumer demand, improved health outcomes, and potential cost savings, particularly for health plans.
Contracting trends highlight a shift toward shorter, performance-based agreements, allowing regular assessments of digital health solutions. Purchasers are focusing on key areas such as diabetes, mental health, and cardiovascular disease. PHTI’s executive director noted that aligning digital health offerings with purchaser priorities presents an opportunity to enhance access and health benefits.
