Digital platform offers online consultations with community pharmacists

My Local Surgery has launched a new digital platform that allows patients to book free online Pharmacy First consultations with community pharmacists. The service covers six common conditions and enables pharmacists to dispense and deliver medications via express postal service if necessary. Launched as part of the NHS Pharmacy First initiative, the platform aims to reduce GP appointments and enhance access to healthcare.

Initially launched in March 2024, the service has seen high demand and plans to expand. It also provides access to the NHS contraceptive service and private consultations, supporting the evolving role of pharmacists in delivering clinical services.

Co-founders emphasize the platform's potential to simplify healthcare access and maximize pharmacists' clinical skills. Dr. Adam Kirk, the chief medical advisor, highlights the rapid service for patients and the opportunity for pharmacists to meet growing online consultation demands. The Village Pharmacy, among the first to use the platform, demonstrates the successful integration of digital healthcare services.
