Elation Health Survey: 66% of Physicians Say AI Cuts Admin Burden

Elation Health, a technology company focused on primary care, has shared the findings from its latest survey of 100 primary care physicians (PCPs), examining the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare. The survey reveals that 66% of PCPs feel AI has significantly reduced their administrative workload. In addition, 65% of physicians believe AI should be developed by their EHR vendor and incorporated into existing workflows. Furthermore, 63% of PCPs expect AI to improve patient outcomes, while 66% foresee AI streamlining practice workflows within the next two years.

Additionally, over half (54%) of PCPs are optimistic that AI will boost financial performance in their practices in the coming year. The survey indicates that AI is increasingly viewed as a tool to make primary care more sustainable and efficient.

Dr. Sara Pastoor, Elation's Head of Primary Care Advancement, noted that AI-powered scribing technology allows physicians to spend more time with patients while ensuring accurate documentation. "AI creates more space for human interaction and improves patient care, all while reducing stress and enhancing business growth," she said.

However, the survey also highlighted challenges with AI adoption, particularly in integrating with existing systems. Many PCPs still face difficulties, including poor integration with EHRs, which can hinder AI’s effectiveness in reducing documentation burdens. Elation’s recent launch of Note Assist, a real-time AI scribing tool, addresses this issue by seamlessly integrating with its EHR to enhance clinical documentation.

The survey, conducted in September 2024, reflects the views of 100 independent primary care clinicians in Elation’s network.
