Fraser Health deploys generative AI for MEDITECH expanse EHR

Fraser Health Authority, a healthcare organisation in Canada, is pioneering the adoption of generative AI for clinical documentation. This progressive initiative employs Google Cloud's Vertex AI and large language models (LLMs) to automatically generate initial drafts of hospital course narratives during patient discharge, effectively reducing the time burden on clinicians and streamlining discharge workflows.

Traditional discharge summaries often demand significant time and effort from clinicians, requiring manual input and summarisation of a patient's entire hospital stay. This labour-intensive process can detract from crucial patient care responsibilities. Generative AI offers a solution by autonomously creating draft summaries, allowing clinicians to dedicate more time to essential tasks and provide improved patient care.
