Google uses AI to expand reach with hospitals, EHR vendors

Google is expanding its presence in the healthcare sector by partnering with top health systems and electronic health record (EHR) vendors. 

Initially, the collaboration with EHR vendor Meditech focused on cloud-based medical records but has since shifted toward generative AI tools. HCA Healthcare and Hackensack Meridian Health are among the healthcare systems adopting Google's generative AI tools to streamline processes like documenting emergency room visits and reducing administrative workloads. 

Google's Chief Health Officer, Karen DeSalvo, MD, believes AI has the potential to transform healthcare significantly, but she emphasises the need for careful consideration regarding ethical and equity issues in the rollout of these tools.
