The company now offers mental health coaching services to its direct-to-consumer subscriber base, with plans to introduce therapy services later in 2024.
Starting this month, individuals in the U.S. can enlist the assistance of a Headspace mental health coach for personalised, one-on-one support. These coaches are equipped to help users address various life challenges, ranging from everyday stress management to enhancing relationships and achieving better sleep. Members have the flexibility to engage with their coach at their convenience, from anywhere, through the Headspace app.
Jenna Glover, Ph.D., Chief Clinical Officer at Headspace, emphasises the importance of this initiative in providing continuous support for mental health needs. She highlights how mental health coaching complements traditional therapy by focusing on practical strategies, tailored guidance, and curated resources to empower individuals in navigating their emotional well-being.
Headspace’s mental health coaches employ an action-oriented approach, drawing from evidence-based techniques such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). These professionals are extensively trained and experienced, ensuring personalised and culturally responsive care for members.
Despite the significant demand for mental health support, access remains a challenge in many regions. Christine Evans, President of Headspace, acknowledges this issue and underscores the role of coaching in providing accessible care to millions of individuals who may not require therapy.
