How digital is helping to put people in charge of their fertility

Fertility treatment is seeing a surge in digital applications, with three companies leading the way. In 2019, the UK witnessed a significant increase in fertility treatments, with IVF cycles tripling since 1991. However, the fertility treatment process remains complex, and the diagnosis of unexplained infertility is challenging. These companies aim to address these issues and offer personalised solutions.

Hertility, founded by Dr. Helen O'Neill, empowers women with comprehensive insights into their fertility. Using a predictive algorithm, Hertility screens for 18 common gynecological and fertility-related conditions. With 272,000 participants, the company offers a digital platform for fertility knowledge and assistance.

Fairtility introduces CHLOE (Cultivating Human Life through Optimal Embryos), an AI-based decision support tool designed to improve outcomes for clinicians and patients. CHLOE leverages real-time imaging and AI to assess embryo quality, reducing the number of treatment cycles patients undergo. The company emphasises transparency and standardised protocols in the fertility treatment process.

Embieapp, co-founded by Josh Gottesman, simplifies fertility treatment management for couples. The app organises treatment data, tracks medication schedules, and provides support through community forums. A premium version offers tailored insights based on individual profiles. The recent addition of the Embie Clinic streamlines workflows for clinics, saving time for both clinicians and patients through automation and real-time monitoring.

Offering digital solutions, these companies are leveraging digital technology to provide more accessible, transparent, and efficient fertility treatments while offering crucial support to individuals on their fertility journeys.
