Best Buy Health has partnered with Mass General Brigham to expand Healthcare at Home services, addressing rising demand and workforce shortages. The collaboration, following Best Buy's initiatives with Atrium Health and Geisinger Health, combines the retailer's tech capabilities with Mass General Brigham's clinical expertise.
Mass General Brigham's Healthcare at Home includes Home Hospital, a leading acute home-based care model, catering to patients with conditions like heart disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Additionally, Home Care, the largest Medicare-certified home health business in New England, focuses on medical services for patients recovering from illness or injury.
The Home Hospital program gained traction in 2020 with the launch of the Acute Hospital Care at Home waiver by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, addressing the COVID pandemic. Mass General Brigham has since provided home-based hospital services to over 3,000 patients, translating to 15,000 in-hospital care days shifted to patients' homes. In 2023, the MGB Home Hospital has facilitated nearly 1,000 admissions and maintains a capacity for 33 patients.
Anticipating the future, Mass General Brigham aims to transition 10% of inpatient care to patients' homes over the next five years, reflecting a commitment to innovative and patient-centric healthcare solutions.
