Northwell launches telehealth program to treat burn victims

Northwell Health's Center for Global Health has partnered with the burn centre at Staten Island University Hospital to implement a telehealth program that offers remote access to burn specialists, treatment plans, and guidance for burn victims. 

The telehealth program utilises a remote camera and microphone system, enabling professionals to closely examine burns and communicate with patients. Following the telehealth appointment, the provider determines the appropriate treatment strategy and assesses if a transfer to the burn centre’s physical location is necessary.

As the sole designated burn centre within the health system, it is at the forefront of caring for and rehabilitating individuals with burn injuries. 

The integration of telehealth technology allows for prompt action in treating burns, while the collaboration ensures that patients receive specialised care from physicians experienced in managing burn cases.
