Season Health, a food-as-medicine platform based in Austin, Texas, has secured a $7 million investment to expand its operations. The funding comes from Inception Health, the innovation arm of Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin health network, Ziegler Link-age Fund, and other investors.
Season Health offers personalised food recipes, pre-made meals, grocery support, nutrition education, and one-on-one meetings with dieticians. The company recently expanded its provider network through the strategic asset acquisition of Wellory, a virtual nutrition support company. Season Health plans to use the funds to develop and scale its food-as-medicine programs, including initiatives for diabetes and high-risk pregnancy, while expanding partnerships with providers and payers.
The $7 million investment reflects a total of $45 million raised by Season Health. Froedtert & MCW health system, with 10 hospitals and over 2,300 physicians, invested in Season Health because they believe the company has built a comprehensive food-as-medicine platform supporting patients' journeys to healthier eating habits and improved health outcomes.
Season Health aims to launch two programs with Froedtert & MCW health system in early 2024, providing in-network access to Season's registered dietician practice and a value-based care program for diabetes. Ziegler Link-age Fund, an investor focusing on improving care for seniors, sees opportunities in Season Health for addressing the nutritional needs of older adults facing chronic diseases, transportation difficulties, and financial constraints. Other companies in the food-as-medicine space include NourishedRx and FarmboxRx, offering tailored meals, grocery support, and nutrition education.
