Seven Starling has closed an $8 million funding round led by Rethink Impact to accelerate the nationwide expansion of its maternal mental health platform. The investment attracted participation from Pear VC, Zeal Capital Partners, Magnify Ventures, Ulu Ventures, Expa, Fiore Ventures, the March of Dimes, Rogue Women's Fund, and Graham & Walker, signaling strong investor confidence in the company's provider-integrated approach to women's behavioral health.
The virtual mental health provider currently operates across 18 states with partnerships spanning 1,500 OBGYNs and plans to expand to over 30 states by the end of 2026. The platform specializes in delivering mental health care during critical reproductive health phases including fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenthood.
Founded by Tina Keshani and Sophia Richter, Seven Starling addresses a significant healthcare crisis where perinatal mood and anxiety disorders affect one in five women, making them the most common complication of childbirth. Despite this prevalence, 75% of diagnosed women never receive treatment due to provider shortages, insurance limitations, and geographic access barriers. The economic impact of untreated maternal mental health conditions reaches $14 billion annually in the U.S. healthcare system.
"We saw an opportunity to build something different by working directly within the healthcare system rather than working around it," said Keshani, CEO and Co-Founder. "Our provider-integrated approach ensures women get specialized care at the moment they need it most."
Clinical outcomes demonstrate the platform's effectiveness, with 90% of patients achieving significant improvement in depression symptoms through evidence-based therapy and medication management. The company maintains in-network coverage with major health plans including Anthem, Aetna, Cigna, and United Healthcare, representing over 100 million covered lives. Access metrics show patients receive initial consultations within one day compared to the five-week industry average, with 96% using in-network coverage and most copays ranging from $0-30. Notably, 40% of patients are accessing mental health care for the first time through the platform.
"Maternal mental health represents a massive market failure – high costs, poor outcomes, and critically underserved populations – and is ripe for disruption," said Jenny Abramson, Founder & Managing Partner of Rethink Impact. "Seven Starling's tech enabled integrated model tackles one of healthcare's most pressing challenges with measurable results."
The technology platform features automated patient screening, one-click referrals, and direct EMR integrations, enabling over 90% of patient referrals to come from partner OBGYNs. AI capabilities handle administrative workflows while licensed clinicians trained in perinatal mental health deliver individual therapy, group sessions, and medication management.
"We've built technology to solve the operational challenges that typically create friction in healthcare delivery," said Sophia Richter, COO and Co-Founder. "Our platform's ability to seamlessly integrate with existing provider workflows while automating complex processes like revenue cycle operations is what enables us to scale specialized care nationwide."
The platform serves 37% BIPOC patients with 50% of clinicians identifying as BIPOC, demonstrating commitment to addressing health equity concerns in maternal mental health care delivery.
