Oura, a leading health-tracking ring maker, has announced plans to acquire Sparta Science, a data company specializing in health and performance analytics. This acquisition will enable Oura to integrate Sparta’s Trinsic data platform into its Oura Teams product, enhancing its enterprise capabilities for B2B customers, including in healthcare and government sectors. By combining Oura’s biometric data with Sparta’s advanced data analytics, Oura Teams will now support diverse use cases such as fitness insights, safety metrics, resource allocation, and optimized scheduling for enterprises, healthcare, and military applications. The integration will allow enterprise clients to merge Oura ring data with third-party sources, create custom dashboards, and streamline data-sharing within existing systems like medical records and athlete management systems.
Several Sparta Science team members will join Oura, bringing additional expertise in performance data. Oura’s Chief Commercial Officer Dorothy Kilroy highlighted that this acquisition builds on partnerships like those with the Department of Defense, where Oura’s ring technology supports large-scale health monitoring for groups such as military personnel. This move further positions Oura to address complex health needs at scale, including early illness detection and optimization of recovery processes.
Oura’s journey began in 2015 on Kickstarter, quickly gaining funding and launching a string of strategic acquisitions. In 2021, it raised $100 million in a Series C round and later reached a $2.55 billion valuation in 2022. The company recently acquired Finnish firm Veri, which specializes in metabolic health programs, as well as Proxy, a digital identity startup that aims to streamline digital access tools. With these acquisitions, Oura continues to expand its reach in personalized and population health, supporting businesses in navigating health challenges with customized insights and tools.
