Supply Delays for Abbott's Freestyle Libre 3 Sensors Amid High Demand

Some users of Abbott’s Freestyle Libre 3 glucose sensors are facing prescription delays due to high demand and low inventory at U.S. pharmacies. Abbott is expanding manufacturing capacity this month and expects further improvements with the opening of a new facility later this year.

In the interim, patients are advised to check back at pharmacies or switch to the Libre 3 Plus, a newer version with adequate supply, according to Abbott spokesperson Lindsy Delco. Abbott’s ongoing efforts to increase production should ease the current delays, with J.P. Morgan analyst Robbie Marcus describing the issue as "very temporary."

The company remains optimistic that these supply challenges will be resolved shortly, ensuring that patients have timely access to the sensors. In addition to ramping up production, Abbott continues to gain market share in the U.S., which has also contributed to the surge in demand for the Libre 3.
