Teladoc Health Acquires Telecare to Strengthen Australian Presence

Teladoc Health has announced the acquisition of Telecare, an innovative Australian technology-enabled company specializing in the virtual delivery of specialist and allied healthcare. While the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, the acquisition marks a significant step in Teladoc Health’s efforts to expand its international footprint.

Under the agreement, Telecare will continue to operate under its existing brand and remain led by its founders and management team. This ensures continuity for Telecare’s partners, patients, and providers across Australia, while also preserving the company’s established identity in the market.

Telecare operates Australia’s leading virtual care clinic and provides software solutions to the healthcare industry. Its network of more than 300 virtual specialists spans over 30 specialties, supporting general practitioner referrals and offering virtual care services to public hospitals nationwide. By doing so, Telecare helps reduce patient wait times and expands access to specialized care, particularly in underserved regions.

For Teladoc Health, the acquisition fits squarely within its broader enterprise strategy, which emphasizes global expansion. The company has already built a strong presence in Australia over the past 15 years, delivering virtual health services to millions of Australians through partnerships with insurers and hospitals. More recently, Teladoc has introduced innovative solutions tailored to the hospital market, including a virtual neonatology program at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and a telesurgery support system in collaboration with Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service.

Michael Wang, co-founder and CEO of Telecare, expressed optimism about the move, stating: “Teladoc Health is uniquely positioned to help accelerate the impact of our mission. We are proud of what we have achieved with Telecare in the Australian health landscape and our ability to help solve access and equity issues in healthcare delivery.”
