Teladoc Health, the New York-based virtual care company, has unveiled Clarity, a safety monitoring platform that applies artificial intelligence to help healthcare organizations prevent and manage incidents of workplace violence. The system integrates AI-driven software, hardware, and services to provide real-time monitoring and notifications to care teams.
The offering serves multiple use cases, including virtual sitting, and now extends to include virtual workplace safety, reflecting Teladoc’s strategy to enhance both clinical and operational safety within hospital environments. The platform analyzes video and audio signals to detect facial expressions, identify threatening gestures, and recognize aggressive language. When a situation escalates, Clarity sends intelligent, timely alerts to staff, allowing for rapid response and de-escalation.
The technology is capable of recognizing nuanced safety risks, such as a person stepping too close to a nurse or interfering with medical equipment, offering facilities an additional layer of security and awareness. Teladoc plans to implement Clarity in select hospitals and health systems in the first quarter of 2026.
“The pace of adoption doesn't always match the pace of innovation. As with any transformative technology, the pace of adoption must be at a speed of trust,” said Andy Puterbaugh, president of hospital and health systems for Teladoc Health. “Our devices and technology are already trusted in thousands of hospital rooms to deliver value, from virtual sitting to virtual consults. Adding this new capability allows us to build on that trust, leveraging AI-enabled capabilities to empower earlier intervention and improve the safety of everyone in the hospital room.”
The launch of Clarity aligns with Teladoc’s broader strategy to expand its integrated care offerings and reinforce its presence in both domestic and international markets. Over the past year, the company has strengthened its portfolio through acquisitions and partnerships, including the purchase of Telecare in Australia and Catapult Health, a virtual preventive care company.
