UC Davis Health's Digital CoLab, in collaboration with the CDC Foundation and Boston Children's Hospital, has introduced a digital pilot initiative named Smart Cumulus.
This program launches a surveillance dashboard, enabling public health authorities to monitor opioid overdoses on a national scale. The primary application of this digital platform is to facilitate data exchange among healthcare institutions, research centres, and public health sites.
The inaugural use of this platform focuses on an opioid overdose surveillance dashboard that benefits Sacramento County Public Health and Yolo County Health and Human Services Agency.
By streamlining the secure sharing of extensive datasets from electronic health records and clinical notes, the program aims to expedite information sharing and enable more comprehensive multisite studies for population health projects.
The initiative addresses the ongoing opioid overdose epidemic in the United States and is poised to contribute to targeted community health responses.
