Walgreens has expanded its Virtual Healthcare platform with the launch of Walgreens Weight Management, a new digital offering designed to connect self-pay patients with licensed clinicians for access to FDA-approved GLP-1 medications. The program reflects the continued mainstreaming of weight-loss pharmacotherapy within retail and digital health settings.
Through the platform, eligible adults aged 18 to 64 can schedule a $49 online video visit with a physician or nurse practitioner who evaluates their weight-loss goals and determines whether a GLP-1 prescription is appropriate. If prescribed, patients can access follow-up visits on demand for medication adjustments or side-effect management. Notably, the program does not require a monthly subscription fee.
Walgreens is offering access to several Wegovy formulations at discounted rates through its Rx Savings Finder tool. Pricing begins at $149 per month for Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy 1.5-mg or 4-mg tablet, while the 0.25-mg and 0.5-mg injectable versions are available starting at $199 per month. The company stated the program is available in most U.S. states and is targeted toward individuals planning to pay out of pocket.
"Expanding our virtual healthcare platform to include weight management is part of our ongoing commitment to listening to patients and the services they want from their local pharmacy," said Rick Gates, chief pharmacy officer at Walgreens.
"By combining trusted clinical expertise with the reach of our digital and pharmacy network, we're helping eligible patients take meaningful steps toward better health, on their own terms."
The launch comes amid sustained consumer demand for GLP-1 medications. A 2025 RAND report found that nearly 12% of U.S. adults reported having taken a GLP-1 drug at some point, while an additional 14% expressed interest in doing so. Uptake was highest among adults aged 50 to 64, particularly women, who were twice as likely as men to have used a GLP-1 among adults aged 30 to 49. Usage rates among adults 65 and older were relatively similar between genders.
Walgreens joins a growing list of digital health platforms — including DarioHealth, Noom, knownwell, GoodRx, and Wheel — that have incorporated GLP-1 prescribing into their virtual care models, signaling continued integration of weight management into primary and retail healthcare channels.
