WellTheory Partners with Instacart to Provide Grocery Stipends for Autoimmune Care

San Francisco-based WellTheory, a virtual care platform dedicated to individuals with autoimmune diseases, has partnered with Instacart Health to embed grocery stipends directly into its care model. Through the integration of Instacart Health’s Fresh Funds, approximately 300,000 eligible WellTheory members can now receive funds to purchase approved fresh and frozen produce through Instacart’s online marketplace.

WellTheory’s model emphasizes nutrition, lifestyle, and ongoing coaching to complement traditional medical care. Members engage regularly with registered dietitians and board-certified health coaches between visits with physicians and specialists, supported by unlimited expert messaging and tailored nutrition plans. The integration of Fresh Funds enables participants to translate those care recommendations into practical, day-to-day dietary choices.

“We’ve learned that the real power in autoimmune care comes from small, consistent daily actions – but only if people can actually take those actions,” said Claire Rudolph, cofounder and head of product at WellTheory. “By integrating Instacart’s Fresh Funds with our curated shopping lists and personalized care plans, we’re transforming nutrition recommendations from abstract advice into immediate, actionable steps that drive meaningful symptom reduction.”

Instacart Health Fresh Funds allows providers, nonprofits, and payers to distribute targeted food stipends that can be redeemed for nutritious items using a simple digital code. WellTheory’s adoption of the program aligns with its broader mission to bridge healthcare guidance and consumer accessibility, ensuring members can act on nutrition plans without financial or logistical barriers.

The partnership follows a year of expansion for WellTheory, which recently secured $14 million in Series A funding led by General Catalyst, bringing its total funding to $26.2 million. Earlier this year, the company launched two AI tools: Care Scribe, which automates transcription and care plan drafting, and Care Hub, a data-driven platform for tracking member progress and compliance.

WellTheory has also established partnerships with payers and employers, including Sentara Health Plans and Maven Clinic, to extend autoimmune care access through integrated nutrition and lifestyle programs. The collaboration with Instacart represents the next phase in WellTheory’s effort to make personalized, food-as-medicine strategies an accessible component of holistic autoimmune management.
