XRHealth, a prominent healthcare platform for spatial computing, has made history by sending a virtual reality headset into space for mental health treatment during an upcoming space mission.
XRHealth collaborated with Nord-Space Aps and HTC VIVE to adapt the VIVE Focus 3 headset for microgravity conditions in space. Danish astronaut Andreas Mogensen will be the first to use this VR headset during his 6-8 month mission with NASA Crew-7 to address potential mental health challenges caused by isolation and high-stress space environments.
The headset has a custom simulator mode to function effectively in microgravity, overcoming challenges related to tracking and orientation that have plagued previous space VR endeavours.
This initiative aims to support astronauts' mental well-being during extended space missions.
