How Addiction Robs the Workplace: What are Employers and Health Plans Doing About It
We all know someone from our workplace who is either fighting an addiction right now or has a loved one battling it. Or at least, with less stigma, the odds are, we do know someone in that situation and could be doing more to support them. The stigma of addiction keeps many from seeking help whether for themselves or for their family. Many employees will avoid using their health benefits for fear of being discovered. This leads to high out-of-network treatment with poor outcomes as well as productivity losses and high turnover. Fortunately, the tide is changing; employers are looking to tackle substance use and its impact on the workplace. Employers and health plans are working together to develop solutions to raise awareness and remove barriers to access. Some have created new “front doors” for addiction treatment with positive results, including new partnerships to ensure employees are able to get quick access to, engage in high quality treatment, and have the necessary supports to maintain their recovery. This session will explore how health plans are focused on building awareness, partnerships, and pathways for employees to access high quality treatment when they need it.

Unlocking multiple front doors: How to meet patients where they are with life-saving mental health care
According to recent research by Evernorth, individuals often delay seeking care for depression for up to 10 years after its onset. The path to care is complicated–with ups and downs, starts, and stops, and many factors along that way that influence how, when, and where an individual decides to get care. This implies that there isn’t a singular "digital front door," but rather multiple entry points.
Effective digital solutions need to be there for all of those entry points. They must show up at the critical moments of an individual's care journey to build trust and familiarity and encourage them to walk through their door when ready. Simultaneously, payers need to partner with digital solutions who understand this, and have built solutions that are able to find and activate individuals seeking care outside of their own directories, especially for those in crisis or with higher severity needs. In this panel, we will discuss how Brightside Health and Evernorth have worked together to form a data-driven partnership that ensures every Evernorth member is receiving the highest quality care, and is leading the way toward value-based contracts.
