Despite decades of digital innovation, our healthcare system remains buried in antiquated and inefficient paperwork that costs precious time and money and further, a lackluster patient experience. There is a plethora of new technology at our fingertips to connect patients’ disparate health information, but somehow patients see the same exact forms on clipboards at every visit. We are stuck in our ways, but perhaps not for long. Novel public-private partnerships are being forged and leaders across the healthcare industry and government are beginning to think differently about the transfer of health information. New interoperability rules coming out in the next few months may pave the way for breakthrough tech to scale across all health systems, turning both the provider and patient experience on its head.
