Catching Cancer If We Can

About this Session:

There are a few competing trends emerging within healthcare: more consolidation, more patients with comorbidities, and a ballooning population aging into Medicare. These high cost patients require a comprehensive approach that emphasizes value-based care, amped up care coordination, payment reforms, and the seamless integration of innovative technologies. While consolidation has the potential to improve care coordination and efficiency, there are concerns about reduced choice and access, as well as the potential for higher costs, specifically in pricey areas like MSK, oncology and cardiovascular care. As more providers are going at risk for patient outcomes, the pressure mounts to deliver better care. Increasing the aggregation of lives covered seems to be the method many are taking to stay level. Medicare plans are constantly walking the fine line between cost containment and maintaining accessibility and quality of services. Can they keep their balance?
