Simply being born in the US puts you at a longevity disadvantage compared to other high income countries. While others have rebounded since COVID, our life expectancy is continuing to decline. We have the most innovative and well-funded health system in the world and yet are failing at keeping our population healthy and happy well into their older age. The root cause doesn’t boil down to one factor, but a plethora of circumstances that hinder us from aging healthily. We are lonelier, more obese, more sedentary, with more exposure to environmental pollutants and less access to care, putting us at a significantly higher risk for several chronic and fatal diseases. The odds are not stacked in our favor, but we are at a critical inflection point to change our downward trajectory. We’ve compiled an expert panel, each specializing in their own field contributing to healthy aging, to steer us in the right direction. We should all get to blow out 110 birthday candles after all!
