The Power of Options: Patient Communication in 2023

About this Session:

Fifth-Eye's Analytic for Hemodynamic Instability (AHI) technology offers valuable assistance to clinicians in predicting patient hemodynamic instability and the onset of shock. This quality improvement (QI) study explores clinician perspectives regarding the integration of AI tools like AHI into their clinical workflows. The study was conducted at the University of Colorado Hospital, a level 1 trauma center, and a not-for-profit hospital boasting 703 beds. This facility also houses the 8th busiest Emergency Department in the U.S.

A qualitative survey, developed by subject matter experts in Emergency Medicine, Clinical Informatics, and Dissemination and Implementation science, was distributed over a three-month period among clinicians working in the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine. This study provides valuable insights into clinicians' perspectives concerning the use of AI within their clinical workflows. Ultimately, our goal is to inform the importance of co-participatory design when developing AI tools for clinicians.
