The Cancer Conundrum

There have been over 4 million fewer cancer-related deaths in the United States since 1991, yet younger and younger populations are getting diagnosed with cancers like colon and breast every year. And the prevalence rate for many cancers has stayed stagnant or even increased year over year. So are we truly getting ahead of this devastating disease? There is no doubt, we have made significant advancements, almost quarterly, in treating cancers more effectively, but can we really claim victory when the number of people needing treatment is increasing? Early detection initiatives, reimbursing annual screenings at a younger age and a better understanding of the risk factors at play can help us curb this puzzling trend. Staying ahead of cancer is no easy feat, but our best and brightest are on its tail!
